Varithena

Ultrasound-guided foam that closes varicose veins, often in one visit.

Sclerotherapy

Quick injections that fade spider veins and small varicose veins.

How vein treatments work

Each treatment works on a different vein.

Vein problems sit at different depths in the leg. Which veins are involved decides the treatment, which is why every plan starts with an ultrasound.

  1. Spider veins

Fine red or blue lines in the skin. Sclerotherapy injections make them fade over several weeks.

  2. Bulging surface veins

Ropey veins just under the skin. Micro-phlebectomy removes them through tiny nicks, with no stitches.

  3. The saphenous vein

The long vein from the ankle to the groin is the source of most varicose veins. Varithena foam or a thin laser fiber (ELAS) closes it from the inside.

  4. Where it starts

An in-office ultrasound maps your leg veins and shows which ones are refluxing. That decides the treatment.

Where each vein treatment works A simplified cross-section of the leg. Spider veins sit in the skin and are treated with sclerotherapy. Bulging surface veins sit just under the skin and are removed with micro-phlebectomy. The saphenous vein runs deeper, in the fat, and is closed from the inside with Varithena or laser therapy. Not sure which treatment you need?

You do not have to know. Every plan starts with an in-office ultrasound and a conversation with the physician. The ultrasound shows which veins are refluxing, and that decides the treatment, not the other way around.
